Absinthe Frappé

A classic alternative to traditional Absinthe service

The Absinthe Frappé was purportedly created by a bartender named Cayetano Ferrer at The Old Absinthe House in New Orleans Louisiana around 1874. It’s impossible to know if that claim is true, but we do know that he was certainly known for making a good one. The Frappe was a popular morning drink from the late 1800’s til Absinthe was banned in the US in 1912, heralding the prohibition to come. Luckily for us the Absinthe ban was lifted in 2002 and we can enjoy this classic alternative to traditional Absinthe service. Absinthe and the way it is served definitely deserves it’s own episode and I am working to make that happen soon!
