The single malts produced by Glenmorangie are prized among Scotch whisky enthusiasts for their inviting profile of honey, vanilla, citrus, and fruit. Glenmorangie’s latest expression, The Cadboll Estate 15, uses barley grown very close to the distillery, at Glenmorangie’s own Cadboll Estate. The whisky is then aged in ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in Amontillado sherry casks for about a year. Is it possible to taste the local terroir of Glenmorangie in this bottle? Find out below.

Tasting notes

The Cadboll Estate 15 begins with a soft, yet deep aroma of honey, red apple, citrus zest, and wildflowers. The two most prominent notes on the palate are honey and baking spice, but there’s a presence of shortbread and hazelnut with just a bit of dried peach and orange zest. The cinnamon and clove notes continue, but the backbone of the finish is sweet and buttery, almost like an almond croissant dusted with confectioner’s sugar.

Final thoughts

This is a classic dram of Glenmorangie. It dials up the spice and nuttiness a bit but remains a delicate, balanced, and inviting whisky. It’s difficult how much the Cadboll barley really makes a difference, but the Cadboll Estate 15 manages to fit comfortably into the distillery’s core lineup while still having a distinct identity.
